Description and story

This “Bicycle Ride 1943” blotter is a XL-format version of the legendary design paying tribute to Dr. Albert Hofmann’s historic journey on April 19, 1943. On that day, after ingesting what he considered a very small dose of a newly discovered compound, Hofmann felt its first powerful effects and chose to ride his bicycle home through the streets of Basel. This moment became a foundational story in a certain countercultural movement, now celebrated globally as “Bicycle Day”.
The imagery of the blotter — a joyful cartoon figure on a bicycle, set against the backdrop of colorful mountains, a moon and star, and the sun with a face — visually captures the whimsical yet cosmic nature of altered states of consciousness. The number “25” on the star is a reference to the compound’s original lab code. The design blends playful symbolism with deep historical roots.

Materials

Printed and perforated blotter paper.

The blotter is made of 180 g/m2 matt white paper.

The black cardstock is made of 220 g/m2 paper.

Packings

Simple packing: The blotter is placed into a BOPP celophane sleeve with hanging hole.

Delux packing: The blotter is mounted onto an A4-sized black photo board using transparent photo corner stickers and placed into a BOPP celophane sleeve with hanging hole.

Shipping

Blotters are shipped in envelopes with two protective cardboard stiffeners. Larger orders are shipped in rigid cardboard envelopes or boxes.
